Tulamben
Tauch Terminal boasts of a diving resort at Tulamben that consists of nine standard bungalows, nine super deluxe rooms, one honeymoon suite, one family room, a restaurant, a multimedia conference room and a swimming pool. The resort is 200 meters away from the famous Liberty Wreck, and about 300 meters away from the Drop-off and also near The Shark Point and Manta Point. The Liberty Wreck is the relic of the U.S. Liberty warship that was torpedoed by the Japanese during World War II in the Lombok Strait. She was beached on Tulamben when rescue attempts failed, and when Mt. Agung erupted in 1963, she broke into two and was swept to her present position close to the shore of Tulamben. The hull is encrusted with coral and the fish have become quite tame because of the large numbers of divers diving here. Porters from the Tulamben Divers' Helpers Club can help to carry diving equipment from the base to the dive site and back.
Lovina
A collection of small villages on the north coast, Lovina is popular as a holiday resort. In the past, coral in the bay was used to make lime. The name of Lovina was given by the late novelist and last king of Buleleng, Anak Agung Panji Tisna in the 50's when the beach was still quiet. Fortunately the coral is now protected and some diving and snorkeling is possible; the water is very clear. Lovina is also a good place to stay if you want to go to Menjangan Island. |
