Travelling by taxis is easy as they can hail from almost anywhere, and most hotels also have taxi counters. Taxi fares are inexpensive. For example, a trip from the Radisson Bali hotel in Sanur to Kuta, which takes about 20-30 minutes, will cost you about Rp35,000, less than four US dollars. There is a minimum charge of Rp 4,000 flagfall and you can book by phone. If the driver is hesitant to put on the meter, insist him to do it or change taxi.
Telephoning for a taxi is the safest way to travel by night as your order is monitored by the taxicompany and problems can be reported. Bali Taksi (under the Blue Bird Group) is highly recommended as its courteous, well- trained drivers know the nooks and crannies of Bali.
Walking is one of the best ways to see Bali as you. will be close to the action. Don't forget a hat and a bottle of water. If you are walking in Kuta be wary of the undulating footpaths and open access holes present every meter or so in the footpath. Every so often, the access holes are left open or the lid is broken, which can result in a nasty fall especially at night. |
